Kenya produces 350 metric tonnes of black CTC tea anually. Most of these teas plus 100 metric tonnes from neighbouring East African Countries are through Mombasa Tea Auction which is the biggest black tea auction in the world. All teas are high grown hand picked producing the best flavours.
Most of the production is from small scale farmers who have an average of hardly half an acre of tea.
Due to the big tea auction, other tea origins are sent to mombasa for blending purposes and around 600 metric tonnes of tea is exported in bulk original, blended or in value added form.
